NT Cultural Discovery Tour 2016
Well it surely did live up to all
expectations!
Our trip to the Northern
Territory this year was fantastic. This was the culmination of countless
sausage sizzles and pre-organisation over the last 2 years and everybody had an
absolute ball especially yours truly, your school mascot Palmwoods Pete. Bleary
eyed Palmwoods school children and 3 staff met at Brisbane airport to begin the
trip of a life time early in March. Most of the Palmwoods kids had never been
on a plane before so there was much excitement on the take off and the landing.
With very steamy conditions we headed into Kakadu on the second day to view
ancient rock art sites at Nourlangie Rock. It was pushing 35 degrees and about
90% humidity so a well-earned swim in our resort pool was a must at the end of
the day, even though the temperature in the pool resembled bath water.
The 3rd day we went to
the Territory Wildlife Park first and got to see some amazing Top End animals
then off to Litchfield Park to do waterfalls and plunge pools. It was a
definite highlight with Alexis Blitzed all comers in the rock pools and Jarrod
dominated in the twisting jump contest. After an exhausting day and diaries all
done it was off to bed. “Make sure you use your torch on your way back to your
room” Mrs Martin and Miss Blood said. Then a scream and of course off goes the
whistle, Abi, Rose, Jaide and Lily encounter some wildlife in the form of a
children’s python on the path, I think it was more frightened than the girls.
Day 4 we were off to the
Spectacular Jumping Crocs and what awesome beasts they are! Well done Jett,
Miss Blood and Lachy for overcoming their fear of snakes with a little cuddle
of a children’s python before we boarded the vessel. Then off to Crocosaurus
Cove in Darwin. More snake and lizard cuddling and a new type of headdress in
the form of a small saltwater crocodile. Well done Zoe, Keegan, Seth, Seb,
Jaide, Jemaya and Mr Eade for showing nerves of ‘Blue Steel’. The Wave Pool was
our next stop in an action packed day. The waves were quite big; you could
almost surf on them. Scott, Lily and Jack were in their own form of the
‘Pipeline’ masters.
Day 5, our last day saw us at the
Darwin Military Museum which was a very sombre reminder of when World War II
came to our shores. There were some fantastic exhibits but unfortunately we had
to leave and head to the airport for our long flight home.
