Queensland state schools embrace a multitude of cultural, religious and non-religious beliefs. under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006, schools are to provide Religious Instruction (RI) if approached by a faith group seeking to provide RI and students of that faith attend the school.
RI informs students about the beliefs and values of a particular religion. It is delivered by volunteers of a faith group using instructional materials approved by that faith group. RI is required to be consistent with legislation and Department of Education policies and procedures.
All RI instructors must hold a blue card and participate in compulsory annual Student Protection and Code of Conduct training. RI instructors are only to deliver the RI program outlined below. A school staff member will be present during the delivery of RI.
Students are allocated to RI based on information provided by parents on the completed Enrolment application package form unless other written instructions have been provided to the school.
Note: This consent remains in effect unless the parent informs the school otherwise in writing.
Participation in RI is not compulsory.
Religious Instruction is offered at Palmwoods State School to all students from Yrs 1-6. Participating student data is directly linked to religion information provided by the enrolling parent at the time of enrolment on the students' enrolment form, or at any time in writing.
At Palmwoods State School the current Religious Instruction program offered is a Christian based Co-Operative program. Information about the program can be found via the links below.
Participating students attend one 30 minute RI lesson each week on Monday afternoon, either 1:45-2:15pm or 2:15-2:45pm, depending on the timetable for each class. These lessons are usually structured as introduction, recap, lesson for the week with an activity (either a game or printed sheet), and ending in prayer time.
Participating faith groups: ACC, Baptist
Authorised program: Big Questions - years 5 & 6, God's Space years 1-4 adventures and navigators. These lessons are tailored to suit each class.
Aims and goals: We aim to contribute richly to the foundation of each child in the classroom. We link community values, self-worth, to make good choices, and treating others well to each lesson.
